The true triumph of “Aurora”, the first offering from producer and multi instrumentalist André Polar, is how masterfully it embodies its name.
From the first chords, austere in their onset, the listener is transported to a stark winter landscape cloaked by night.
We find ourselves tethered to the icy ground by hypnotic drums as the sonic sky above us opens.
A vast soundscape builds around the chords suggesting to us the first rays of the ghostly light for which the song is named.
Synthesized textures dart in and out of the space left by the chords, each one adding another vibrant color to the song’s already rich pallet.
The drums build in response and suddenly, we are face to face with the majestic Northern Lights in their full form.
“Aurora” is at once, minimal and cinematic, grounded and buoyant, restrained and vivacious; our first window into the work of a seasoned and sophisticated producer who has only just begun to make his mark.
